RICE (11205):

Rice is a flood-irrigated crop that is a seed producing annual grass. It is usually grown in leveed fields that are flooded much of the growing period, and dried out to mature and facilitate harvesting. Rice fields are normally planted in the spring and harvested in fall.

DISTRIBUTION:

Rice is grown on heavier clayey soils that hold water well, soils that once supported natural wetlands. This type is most widespread in the Great Central Valley.
