EUCALYPTUS (11300):

Eucalyptus groves have been extensively planted throughout the state since their introduction in 1865. Overstory composition is typically limited to one, or sometimes a few, species of the genus; few native overstory species are present within eucalyptus planted areas. The Urban and Built-up Land category takes precedence over eucalyptus when the criteria for more than one category are met. Therefore, most eucalyptus groves are included in type (11100).

DISTRIBUTION:

Eucalyptus occurs in California from San Diego and Imperial counties in the south, usually at elevations below 500 m, to Shasta in the north. Most eucalyptus, however, is found around populated areas of southern and central California.
