Even-aged stands of Ponderosa pine of varying height, but often 5-12 m tall. Canopy is usually open enough to allow sufficient light penetration to support fairly dense to dense shrub growth.
SITE FACTORS:
Sites disturbed from previous timber harvest. Soil disturbance from log skidding and transport. Fire, herbicide and tree planting among anthropogenic treatments undertaken to achieve target vegetation and attempt to maximize tree growth.
DISTRIBUTION:
Throughout Modoc Plateau region on Forest Service land at elevations ranging mostly from 1500-2500 m. Also in Sierra Nevada, Cascades Ranges, and Northwestern California.
