MONVERO RESIDUAL DUNES (23300) :


An open shrubland dominated by Ephedra californica, and Ericameria linearfolia with an understory of Nassella speciosa, Achatherum hymenoides, and several other forms normally not found in the Colorado and Mojave deserts.

SITE FACTORS:

Hilltop sand accumulations that have weathered in place from Miocene sandstones. These sands have been identified as the Monvero soil series. They occur on hilltops and along ridges. They are not wind-transported.

DISTRIBUTION:

Narrowly restricted to hilltops and ridgelines along the lower Inner South Coast Range in western Fresno County, generally between 1,500 and 3,000 feet elevation.
