BUSH CHINQUAPIN CHAPARRAL (37550) :


Dense, low (1-2m) sclerophyllous, evergreen shrub fields dominated by bush chinquapin. Plants activity concentrated in spring and summer.

SITE FACTORS:

Rocky or gravelly mountain summits or xeric slopes, largely between 1,500 and 6,000 feet in the Coast Range and Sierra Nevada, but to 10,000 feet in the Transverse and Peninsular ranges. This type usually occurs in shallow-soiled or rocky sites within Lower or Upper Montane Coniferous Forest (84000, 85000).

DISTRIBUTION:

From southern Oregon south in the Coast Ranges to Mendocino County, in the Cascade-Sierra to Kern County, and in the higher parts of the San Gabriel and San Jacinto ranges.
