CENTRAL COAST RIPARIAN SCRUB (63200) :

A scrubby streamside thicket, varying from open to impenetrable, dominated by any of several willows. This early seral community may succeed to any of several riparian woodland or forest types absent severe flooding disturbance.

SITE FACTORS:

Relatively fine-grained sand and gravel bars that are closed to river channels and therefore close to ground water. Coarser substrates or greater depths to the water table favors dominance by Baccharis.

DISTRIBUTION:

Along and at the mouths of most perennial and many intermittent streams of the South Coast Ranges, from the Bay Area south to about Pt. Conception.
