ALVORD OAK WOODLAND (71170) :


A variable woodland similar to Blue Oak Woodland (71140), though the trees usually are shorter (or even shrubby). Alvord oak is a hybrid of Quercus douglassii and Quercus turbanella.

SITE FACTORS:

Droughty sites in the rain shadows of the South Coast Ranges. Site differences (if any) between this habitat and Blue Oak Woodland (71140) need clarification.

DISTRIBUTION:

Inner South Coast Ranges from the Salinas Valley area south into the Tehachapi Mountains and northern Los Angeles County.
